CREATING A BRAVE SPACE

During our inquiries of dance and living together in the week of Fall in CI, we expect to have joyful times. However our practice can sometimes be challenging, risky and overwhelming.

We commit to train our abilities to listen to each other and to ourselves. WE ALWAYS HAVE A RIGHT TO SAY NO to what feels uncomfortable, wrong, disturbing or to what is hurting us physically or emotionally. We learn to LISTEN and RESPECT OUR and OUR PARTNERS’ YESES and NOS. And if we are not sure, if it’s a MAYBE, then we understand it as a NO… and see what unfolds.

Not knowing what may happen, we remain attentive to each other, and constantly extend our capacity to slow down, wait, redirect or put a stop to an interaction in and around our dances.

AWARENESS AND SUPPORT TEAM

In Fall in CI, we believe that it is our collective responsibility to study and co-create an inclusive, comfortable and safe(r) environment in and outside of the dance floor, dancing and living together.

We have a team to bring awareness to and support co-creating a brave space during our gathering.

At any moment,
if you feel discomfort or confusion during or after an interaction;
if you feel that your boundaries got crossed and you are not able to address it;
if you feel you might have crossed someone’s boundaries and you do not know what to do about it;
or in general, if you have questions, queries, interrogations,
you are invited to approach a member of this team and ask for support.

Whatever you share will be handled with care and will stay as confidential as you wish. We hope this to be also a study group, please come with your questions or challenges regarding interactions and boundaries, even without an emergency.

Participants interested in joining this team will be welcome. We will create the team together on site.

If you have experience in Physical First Aid, Emotional Support, Conflict Resolution / Mediation and you would like to join our team please let us know via sending us a mail at defneerdur@gmail.com. When on site we will hold a meeting on the first day of the gathering and co-create this group; its structure and functioning. Your mail will not hold you responsible for commitment to the group. At any moment if you change your mind you can always retreat from the team.

AN INVITATION TO BRAVE SPACE

by Beth Strano/Micky ScottBey Jones

There is no such thing as a “safe space”
We exist in the real world.
We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.

This space
seeks to turn down the volume of the world outside, and amplify voices that have to fight to be heard elsewhere,

[…] We will not be perfect.
This space will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be.
But
It will be our brave space together, and
We will work on it side by side.
